How about IP Office Hours during the Break and Summer Quarter?
Yes, the IP Office will be open during the break, but there will be no walk-in advising available on Thursday or Friday, June 17th and 18th (due to new student orientation).

During the first week of summer quarter we will have extended hours. Walk-in advising will be available every day from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Check List for Summer Break

-If you are planning to take a vacation quarter this summer you must let your advisor know.
-During a vacation quarter you may stay in the U.S., or travel. You are not required to take any classes, however, you may take less than 12 credits if you like.
-Get that I-20 signature two weeks before leaving the country, if you plan to return to GRCC. Don't forget and don't wait until the last minute!
-You must carry health insurance while in the U.S. during a vacation quarter and during OPT.
-Health insurance must be paid at the IP office by check made out to The Lewer Agency. Include your full name and the last five numbers of your student ID on the memo line of your check.

Returning in the Fall?

If you are returning to GRCC you should be registered already for fall quarter.
If you are leaving for the summer and plan to return, print a copy of your fall class schedule and keep it with your I-20 as an extra document to show immigration if needed. You probably won't need it, but it may help if you are questioned.

IP Graduation Party!
It’s going to be June 11th, from 2-4:30 in front of IVD. Graduates and their families are all welcome. There will be cake and light refreshments. Graduates, please wear your cap and gown for photos! Shuttles depart campus to graduation at 5:00, but you must register with Student Programs if you plan to use the shuttle. Graduation ceremony details are here.

Transferring Soon?
Come in to the IP Office to get your I-20 transferred properly. You will need a letter of acceptance from the new school and some additional paperwork.

Address Change?

Update your address within 10 days of any move! Updating your address is quick and easy. Link here to update your address.

12 Credit Rule and Online Classes VERY IMPORTANT!!!

You must take a minimum of 12 credits if you are not registered on a vacation quarter this summer. At least 9 credits must be in the classroom, not online. If you are not registered for at least 9 credits in the classroom, or want to take all online classes you must be registered for a vacation quarter. Please speak with your advisor before summer quarter starts if you have questions or need help registering for summer classes.

Tips for Transferring in 2011.

1) Choose at least five schools to apply to.
2) Look at those school websites to familiarize yourself with the application deadlines and application requirements for transfer and international students.
3) Begin drafting your personal statement essays based on questions from the application.
4) Register here for TOEFL now. The local tests dates become flooded in the fall and students who wait may need to travel far (often out of State) to take this often required exam.
5) Begin collecting copies of your official high school transcript, your immunization records, bank statements, etc. If you are going home you can do this yourself rather than bothering your parents at the last minute!

Friend 2 Friend

Will you be at GRCC over the summer? Are you interested in helping new international students? If you answered “yes” to both of these questions then Friend to Friend (F2F) is for you! Friend to Friend is a program in which current GRCC students are matched with new international students to help them adjust to living at CCA and learning at GRCC. Students that are matched with partners in the Friend to Friend program are expected to attend the welcome dinner on June 17 so they can meet their new friends. During the quarter students in the program will stay in contact with their partners to answer questions and be a guide to life at GRCC. Interested?? Applications will be out at the end of May, please send your questions to Martha Koch at mkoch@greenriver.edu
